This sweet was developed in 20th century in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A military air force brigadier named Eduardo Gomes ran as a candidate in the presidential election of the opposition group to the current government regime. For the first time, women can vote in this presidential election. Only selected women could vote including widows, single women earning their own salaries and women who had their husband permission. At that time, the situation was lack of resource of fresh milk and sugar. They were shared with the population at limited quantity. It was difficult to make sweets. The group of women decided to raise campaign funds through selling small sweet using alternative resources available at that time. This method gained attraction of public. At the end, Eduardo did not win the presidential election, but he and his sweet captured the heart of people.
