The story:

In the region of the Mataram Kingdom, there was abundant resources of jackfruit trees. Also since jackfruit was not targeted by colonizer, it was not valued highly and became more affordable to the society. Mataram’s people started to develop a cuisine based on jackfruit especially young jackfruit or gori. Eventually a recipe was found to process gori. Gudeg was initially eaten by soldier or worker. Nowadays gudeg is a national dish of Indonesia.
